We have reached the final chapter of the Superliga regular season, as Farul Constanța will visit the Municipal Stadium. With a victory, we could add one more point to the tally we carry with us into the play-out.
Another milestone: we have reached the end of the regular season, which means that including this match we will see FK Csíkszereda only five more times at home in the current Superliga campaign. Next comes the play-out for us, whose line-up – including our team – has already been decided. It is also certain that in the second part of the play-out we will play four of the remaining nine matches at home and five away.
At the end of this phase of the championship we also asked head coach Ilyés Róbert for a brief evaluation during the official pre-match press conference. “People always set bigger goals for themselves and want more, but we have to accept reality in terms of both points and our position in the table. After the regular season ends we will be able to make a more detailed analysis. Our chances of staying in the top division are still there, but we know we will play one fewer match at home, which could be a disadvantage because playing at home suits us better. The play-out, as I told the team, will be like a war – the big question is who will survive,” the head coach explained.
Our final regular-season opponent, Farul Constanța, will also be one of our rivals in the play-out. In the autumn meeting on the seaside we were given little chance and left Ovidiu with a clear 0–3 defeat. This year, however, nobody has managed to take points away from Miercurea Ciuc, while the seaside team no longer shows the same form as in autumn, when they were widely considered a strong candidate for the championship play-off. In their last five matches they suffered four defeats, although their only win, 3–1, came against title-chasing Rapid – and earlier this year they won with an another title contender, Universitatea Craiova, 4–1, both victories coming at home.
The Constanța club has been a stable presence in Romania’s top division in recent years, and thanks to the system built by Gheorghe Hagi it regularly produces talented players. Farul’s playing style is characterized by possession, quick attacking build-up and technical football. The key to the match will likely be the midfield battle: the visitors will try to dominate possession, while FK Csíkszereda’s priority will be to stop Farul’s quick combinations and capitalize on counterattacking opportunities.
Ilyés Róbert pointed out that we will face a very good team that the coaching staff has carefully analyzed. “They are a team that keeps possession well and passes the ball very effectively, which stems from the club’s philosophy and reflects Hagi’s style of play. Against them we must be very disciplined defensively in order to earn points,” he said.
Ilyés Róbert will not be able to rely on Anderson Ceará, who is suspended after accumulating four yellow cards, while injuries will also cause a few absences. The good news is that during the week the team was able to train on grass again at the Burus Csaba Sports Base, and with the arrival of more spring-like weather the main pitch is also in increasingly better condition for the match.
A victory on Friday would take us to 32 points in the regular season, meaning that after the points are halved we would enter the play-out with 16 points. A draw or defeat would have the same consequence: we would carry 15 points forward. However, besides the points, the final position in the table matters most: the team finishing 12th stays in the top division without any further play-off, while the 13th-placed team must play a relegation play-off. We hope our team will finish in the first category, and a positive result on Friday could help us move closer to that goal.
Come on FK, come on Ciuc, come on Szeklerland!
