We closed the Superliga regular season with another home win, as Farul Constanța left Miercurea Ciuc without points in a match where even a missed penalty did not prevent the hosts from claiming all three.
Our excellent home form in 2026 continued: Róbert Ilyés’ team has now won all four matches played at the Municipal Stadium this year. The Friday`s clash with the seaside side was more balanced in open play than expected. Although the visitors had slightly more possession, the hosts clearly dominated in terms of shots and dangerous chances – and, most importantly, the red-and-blacks were also superior in goals.
Before the match, FK Csíkszereda president Zoltán Szondy presented a commemorative jersey to our defender Răzvan Trif, who played his 150th top-flight match in the previous home game. As for the match itself, the expected early pressure from Farul did not arrive apart from Marković’s missed one-on-one chance in the 2nd minute. Instead, early in the first half Attila Csűrös tried his luck with a shot from around 30 meters, but the ball went wide. Shortly afterwards Zoltán Efraim Bödő received the ball twice in promising positions inside the penalty area but failed to convert either opportunity. In the 28th minute Farul threatened after a corner, when a cross from the right rolled just centimeters across the face of goal without anyone getting a touch.
One of the key moments came in the 31st minute. Pellegrini fouled Jebari at the edge of the box, and the latter quickly took the free kick. After a short combination Zoárd Nagy was brought down in the penalty area by Marković, and the referee awarded a penalty – a decision confirmed after a VAR review. In the 35th minute Lóránd Pászka stepped up, but his centrally placed shot was saved with the foot by Munteanu. Towards the end of the first half Farul also threatened: after a defensive mistake Grigoryan shot from 16 meters, but his left-footed attempt went wide of the far post.
The game remained balanced after the break. In the 51st minute, after a neat combination, Ganea fired from 12–13 meters but the ball went just past the left post. In the 58th minute Pászka delivered a free kick from the left and Zoárd Nagy headed over from six meters. Soon afterwards Jebari tried a shot from 20 meters, comfortably collected by Munteanu.
The decisive moment came in the 71st minute. Gustavo won a free kick on the right side, Pászka delivered the cross, and Márton Eppel – who had come on just minutes earlier – slid the ball into the net from close range: 1–0. It was our striker’s eighth goal of the season, and he dedicated the goal to Ervin Bakos, who is recovering from a serious injury and joined the team for this match.
In the closing stages we had further chances to seal the win. In the 79th minute Szabolcs Dusinszki went through on goal after a brilliant pass from Gustavo, but Munteanu produced a great save. One minute later Eppel headed from close range, but the attempt lacked power and the Farul goalkeeper denied him again. No further goals were scored, meaning our team secured its fourth home victory of the year and fifth overall.
“Tonight we were truly united and fought for every ball together. From a tactical point of view I am completely satisfied; we didn’t allow Constanța much space. We knew they have very technical players and play a combinative style. We were very disciplined, and I am proud of the boys and of these four home wins. Since we restarted the matches in January we have looked good, especially at home, which suits us well. I’m very happy with these points. Now the play-out is coming, and it will be like a war: every team will fight for points and it will be a huge battle. There will be tension on the benches and around the referees as well. I told the players in the dressing room after congratulating them that the real fight for survival begins on Monday. We must be ready mentally and physically. But if we keep this mentality that I saw today, I believe we won’t have problems,” said head coach Róbert Ilyés after the match.
Thanks to Friday’s victory we finished the regular season with 32 points, 16 of which were collected after the winter break. The same number of points will be carried into the play-out, which begins next weekend, with the exact schedule to be determined after the final round matches are completed.
