In Round 11 of the Women’s Superleague, we played away against Olimpia Gherla and secured a convincing win despite difficult pitch conditions. The match was decided in the first half, as we maintained full control with discipline and focus.
Before kick-off, both teams held a minute of silence in memory of Romanian football legend Imre Jenei, who will be laid to rest on Saturday in Oradea.
From the very first minute, we dominated the game. The hosts struggled to cross midfield and didn’t manage a single shot on target.
In the 21st minute, Melánia Tóbik opened the scoring, sending a rebound into the bottom right corner (0–1).
Ten minutes later, Andrea Herczeg delivered a precise cross from the left, and Jehona Shala delicately redirected it into the net (0–2).
The second half followed a similar pattern, with the home side pinned in their own half as we continued to press for more goals. Substitute goalkeeper Maria Costea made several fine saves to prevent a larger defeat for Olimpia.
After the match, our head coach Szilvia Szeitl expressed her satisfaction:
– I asked the girls not to think about the conditions. When we arrived, it was clear the pitch would be muddy, so I told them to just focus on the game. If you slip, get up and keep going – that’s all that matters – said the coach.
– The players followed the plan perfectly. In the first half they showed determination and discipline, and the two early goals gave us confidence. In the second half we brought on players returning from injury, which was important for their recovery – she added.
– Yes, we could have scored more, but the three points are what matter most. I’m proud of the team – playing this kind of football in such conditions shows real strength and quality – concluded Szilvia Szeitl.
