One week after beginning their preparations, our significantly reshaped women’s team played their first friendly match. Péter Kollár’s side visited Hungarian league and cup champions FTC-Telekom and suffered a 3–1 defeat.
The hosts established a three-goal lead in the first half of the match at the Sándor Kocsis Sports Centre. We pulled one back late on when substitute Dorina Tănase headed home to make the final score 3–1.
Head coach Péter Kollár assessed the match:
– Our rebuilt team played its first match. We arrived at the training camp after only one week of training and immediately faced Ferencváros. We could have chosen an easier opponent, but we opted for the more difficult path because we wanted to learn more about the character of our new players, identify the areas in which we still need to improve both individually and as a team, and see how we can perform under pressure throughout an entire match. It was difficult to predict what to expect, but the players did not disappoint me. Their attitude was right, and we saw many good solutions that we can build on. We are still at the very beginning of our journey and have a lot to work on, but if we develop into a united group, we can be successful. We conceded from situations that we have not yet had time to practise. It was clear that Ferencváros are further ahead in their preparations and are a more settled team, so they deserved their victory. Another positive for me was the performance of our young players: they were not intimidated, we can rely on them, and they have plenty of potential.
