Our U15 team claimed its first play-off victory by coming from behind to win away at Petrolul Ploiești. Head coach Zoltán Fogarasi’s assessment:
“It was a very intense and hard-fought match against a technically strong home side. We started well, trying from the very beginning to neutralize their initiatives. As a result, we won a lot of balls in their half and created several promising attacking situations, but the final passes often lacked precision, so apart from a long-range shot that hit the post, we couldn’t create real chances. During this period, our defense was solid, and apart from a few corners, the opponent couldn’t create real danger.
We also started the second half well, with a lot of ball possession, but still without creating major chances. However, their counterattacks were dangerous, and our goalkeeper had to make several brilliant saves to keep us in the game. After conceding from a long-range shot, we made three substitutions that brought new energy and momentum. We equalized after a well-built attack and continued to push forward, spending much of the time in the opponent’s half, though their counterattacks still posed a threat. Eventually, after a corner kick, we scored the winning goal and held onto the result with intelligent and spirited play.
Overall, I can say we didn’t play particularly well — there were too many inaccuracies in our game, partly because we hadn’t played a match in two weeks. Today’s victory was mainly due to our fighting spirit, determination, and will to win. We managed to beat a strong team, and I’m especially happy that this was the first match of the season where we came back from behind, proving the team’s mental strength.
Congratulations to the players and staff, and I wish a speedy recovery to the opponent’s player who suffered a serious injury. Interestingly, the same players scored for us against Petrolul in both the regular season and now: Matei Darius and Debrenti Milán.”
