FK Csíkszereda – Állásfoglalás

FK Csíkszereda condemns the recent behavior of certain representatives of the Romanian sports media. We find it unacceptable that parts of the media choose xenophobia and hate speech over objective, fact-based reporting, merely to generate clicks and sensationalism.

The Szekler and Hungarian flags are not banned symbols but natural expressions of the cultural heritage and identity of the Szeklerland community. This has been confirmed by several international bodies, including the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), which ruled that the use of such symbols is part of cultural identity and freedom of expression.

The fine imposed by the gendarmerie after the match against Universitatea Cluj was a clear abuse, which we are confident the court will also recognize. It is also worth noting that since then, the gendarmerie has not applied any further sanctions for displaying the same symbols.

The claim that the use of the term “Szeklerland” is banned by the Romanian Football Federation is equally false and misleading. Szeklerland is a historical and cultural region whose existence is a historical reality, even if Romania’s current administrative system does not officially use this name.

For all these reasons, in the future we will no longer grant accreditation to media outlets that choose to spread hatred and hostility against Hungarians instead of reporting on sports.
