We made several changes to the starting line-up compared with the match against FC Argeș. The back four in front of Pap remained unchanged, while Tajti and Csürös also kept their places. Stahl, Bödő, Czékus and Szalay all came into the starting eleven. In the absence of Szilárd Veres, Lóránd Pászka wore the captain’s armband at kick-off, but Veres came on at half-time and took over the role.
The hosts fielded the same starting line-up that had earned a 2–2 draw away to FCSB on Monday. The match kicked off 11 minutes late due to technical issues affecting both the VAR system and the referees’ communication equipment.
Around 25 supporters from Ciuc accompanied the team on one of our longest away trips of the season. They backed FK in the sweltering heat, while according to their accounts, only one tap was available to provide water in the away section.
Farul made the more positive start. In the 18th minute, Ahlinvi found the net after being played through by Sîrbu, but following a VAR review lasting almost three minutes, the goal was disallowed for offside.
Six minutes later, the hosts took the lead with a goal that did stand. Sylvestre was brought down around 21 metres from goal, and Doicaru curled the resulting free-kick brilliantly into the top-left corner (1–0).
In the 28th minute, Sîrbu’s low cross from the right passed between Pászka’s legs and reached Rădăslăvescu, who fired home first time from close range (2–0).
We did not collapse after conceding twice in quick succession. In the 35th minute, Czékus raced onto Hegedűs’s long pass, took advantage of Dican’s mistake and calmly converted the chance. It was our first goal of the league season (2–1).
In the 39th minute, Pap tipped another dangerous Doicaru free-kick away from underneath the crossbar. One minute later, however, the hosts restored their two-goal advantage as Ahlinvi won his duel with the defender and headed home from close range (3–1).
István Szabó made a double substitution at half-time, with Ódor replacing Szalay and Veres coming on for Tajti. We played with much greater courage in the second half and began to reach the Farul goal with increasing frequency.
Tóth-Pál replaced Bödő in the 62nd minute, and the substitute striker soon played a leading role. In the 69th minute, he dribbled past Dican inside the penalty area and lifted a cross into the middle, which Czékus headed into the net (3–2).
Farul attempted to settle the match on the counter-attack. In the 76th minute, Doicaru raced forward after we had lost possession, but his lob sailed narrowly over the bar. Late on, both Pap and Pászka had to intervene to halt a dangerous attack from the hosts.
We appealed for a penalty in the 88th minute following Sîrbu’s challenge inside the box, but referee Gabriel Mihuleac allowed play to continue. In stoppage time, we were genuinely only centimetres away from an equaliser: after Pászka’s corner, Vînă’s attempted clearance struck the Farul crossbar and bounced back into play.
Speaking after the match, head coach István Szabó said he had not expected that even two goals would be insufficient to earn at least one point away to Farul.
“I am not at all satisfied with what I saw in the first half, but we worked much harder in the second. I believe that if we put in even more work and take to the pitch with even greater determination, luck will also be on our side and the ball will bounce in off the post,” the head coach said.
