We travel to Sibiu for Matchday 13 of the Superliga regular season, where we face Hermannstadt, who are one point ahead of us in the standings. A perfect chance to climb higher!
Especially considering that in our next match, on Friday, we will host Petrolul – another team on 9 points, but ahead of us thanks to a better goal difference.
We have faced Hermannstadt, who use the city’s German name in the Superliga, only once in an official match: during the 2021–2022 Liga 2 season, Round 5, in Mediaș, where Hermannstadt won 4–1 and went on to secure promotion to the top tier at the end of that campaign. Since then, they have completed their new stadium in Sibiu, where we will play for the first time. That season was our second in Liga 2 (but the first full one after the shortened Covid season), and although we missed out on the play-offs, we comfortably won the play-out by 11 points.
As for their current form, Hermannstadt have won just once in their last five league games. Nevertheless, they enjoy home advantage and will be much fresher than us, having last played on October 5, while we were in action on Thursday evening against CFR.
Head coach Róbert Ilyés emphasized at the pre-match press conference that recovery and preparation will be key after such a short turnaround:
“We expect a tough match, but we believe we can continue our good run. After securing our first home victory, we now aim to earn our first three points away. We know it won’t be easy, but we trust that with good play and the right mentality, we can make it happen,” said the coach.
Joining him at the press conference were players Szabolcs Szalay and János Ferenczi, who also shared their thoughts ahead of the match.
The game kicks off on Monday at 18:00 and will be broadcast live on Digi Sport 1 and Prima Sport 1. As usual, our club will provide a live Hungarian-language radio commentary from the stadium via our Facebook page.
