Our U15 team said goodbye to their home ground for the season with an excellent victory over the weekend, and head coach Zoltán Fogarasi could evaluate his team’s performance with satisfaction.
The week did not start easily for the youngsters, as after Wednesday’s cup elimination they had to quickly regroup.
“After Wednesday’s cup exit everyone was very disappointed, as we failed to reach the final in a match where the opponent did not beat us: we scored three goals and it still ended in a draw, then we were eliminated on penalties. On Thursday and Friday we tried to lift the team mentally, and physically we focused on training and recovery that helped us recharge,” recalled Fogarasi.
On Friday, the focus shifted to analyzing Dinamo, and according to the coach it became clear that the team had moved on from the disappointment.
“You could see on their faces and in their mindset that they had overcome the setback. The team knew very well that we still had a chance to reach the top two places in the league, but also that we had to win. We started the match accordingly, took control, created chances one after another, including clear-cut opportunities, and we had many corners – thirteen in total. We dominated completely.”
The opening goal came with difficulty, but the team remained patient and organized:
“The goal was hard to come by, but even after scoring we stayed on the front foot. We handled the opponent’s attempts easily; over the whole match they had only one real chance, where we defended very effectively. Our midfield defending and back line worked well, and we managed to deal efficiently with their long balls towards the attackers.”
From regained possession, FK built up well, circulated the ball patiently and managed to get behind the opposition defense several times:
“After winning the ball, we kept possession well, switched play effectively and got behind the opponent, from where we created dangerous chances. At halftime we discussed a few details to make our play even more precise, and that was reflected on the pitch.”
The dominance continued in the second half, and the second goal effectively decided the match:
“In the second half we dominated in the same way, possession was clearly in our favor, chances kept coming, although our final pass often lacked precision. The second goal broke the resistance, and from then on there was no doubt about the outcome. The opponent’s enthusiasm dropped, they focused mostly on defending, had a few sporadic attacks, but we handled them easily. The third goal closed the game for good.”
The victory was especially valuable as it meant a fitting home farewell to the season:
“We are very happy to have finished our home campaign with a win in a season where we played 31 competitive matches, scored 83 goals and lost only four times. That is a great achievement at this level and at any level.”
However, the coach emphasized that the season is not over yet:
“The season is not finished, as we travel to Bucharest this weekend, where we must win so we do not have to depend on the result of Iași. We want to perform well there too and achieve our objective, which we set during the season: to progress further from the play-off.”
Finally, Fogarasi thanked everyone who contributed to the team’s performances:
“I congratulate the team and the staff, everyone approached Sunday’s match professionally. Last but not least, I would like to thank the parents for their support throughout the entire season. With this victory we wish a speedy recovery to József Polgár and Péter Egyed, who could not be with us due to known reasons. We look forward to having them back as soon as possible.”
