The group draw for the 2025–2026 edition of the women’s Romanian Cup has been completed: according to the FRF’s announcement on Wednesday afternoon, our defending champion team will begin its campaign in Group B, with the group-stage matches scheduled from late March until the final week of April.
Sixteen teams will compete in this year’s competition, divided into four groups of four. Alongside the eight clubs from the Women’s Superleague, the field also includes eight additional teams – one from the third division and seven from the second division. Group matches will be played in a single round-robin format (March 25, April 1, April 29), and only the top team from each group will advance to the semifinals.
In the semifinals, the winners of Groups A and D will face each other, while on the other side of the bracket the winners of Groups B and C will meet in a two-legged tie. These matches are scheduled for May 13 and 20, with the final set for June 14.
Our team, last year’s cup winner, begins in Group B, where our opponents will be Unirea Alba Iulia, Petrolul Ploiești, and Rapid Bucharest.
Head coach Szilvia Szeitl said they followed the draw live and expect difficult matches. “Naturally, our only objective can be to progress as group winners, so we will do everything to achieve that. The cup is always a special competition, and for us, as defending champions, it is particularly important,” the coach stated.
